Balancing a Dream: Running a Clothing Brand, Building a Community & Parenting a Toddler

Starting a clothing brand from scratch is an adventure in itself—full of highs, lows, and endless learning. But doing it while raising a two-year-old? That’s a whole different level of chaos and commitment.
I started Pathfinder Clothing Co. with a clear vision: to create a brand that blends a love for the outdoors with mental health awareness, using sustainable materials and fostering a real sense of community. But as much as I wanted to dive headfirst into the business, I had another full-time role—being a parent. And let’s be real, nothing quite prepares you for the rollercoaster of running a business while keeping up with a tiny human who seems to run on boundless energy and minimal sleep.

The Reality of Juggling Both Worlds
Every day is a balancing act between being present for my child and pushing Pathfinder Clothing Co. forward. It means squeezing in design work during nap times, packing orders late at night, and answering emails with a toddler climbing on my lap. Some days, I feel unstoppable—ticking off tasks, creating new designs, and engaging with the incredible community that’s forming around the brand. Other days, it feels like I’m moving through treacle, watching my to-do list grow while struggling to keep up with both work and parenting.
And let’s not forget the unpredictability of a two-year-old. Just when I think I have a few hours to focus, a sudden tantrum, an unexpected nap refusal, or the need for an emergency snack supply run can throw everything out the window. The ability to pivot, adapt, and let go of perfectionism has been my greatest lesson.

The Guilt Factor
One of the hardest parts? The guilt. When I’m working, I worry I’m not spending enough time with my child. When I’m with my child, I worry about the business. It’s a constant mental tug-of-war. But I remind myself why I’m doing this—to build something meaningful, not just for myself, but for them. I want to show my child that following your passion is worth it, that hard work pays off, and that you can create something from the ground up with persistence and love.

Building a Community, Not Just a Brand
What keeps me going is the community Pathfinder Clothing Co. is slowly growing. It’s not just about selling t-shirts; it’s about connecting with people who share a love for the outdoors and understand the importance of mental health. Whether it’s through social media conversations, customer messages, or seeing people wear the designs out in nature, it’s a reminder that this brand is about something bigger.
And that’s the part I love—hearing stories from others who have found solace in the outdoors, who appreciate the eco-friendly approach, and who resonate with the mental health message. It makes every late night, every moment of doubt, and every bit of exhaustion worth it.

Lessons Learned So Far
• Progress Over Perfection – There’s never a “perfect” time to start something, especially as a parent. The key is just to start and keep moving forward.
• Ask for Help – Whether it’s family, friends, or fellow business owners, I’ve learned that I don’t have to do everything alone.
• Embrace the Chaos – Some days will feel like a mess, and that’s okay. Flexibility and resilience are the real superpowers.
• Small Steps Matter – Even if I can only do one thing for the business in a day, it’s still progress. Consistency wins in the long run.

The Bigger Picture
Would it be easier to do this without the constant demands of parenting? Probably. But would it be as meaningful? I don’t think so. I’m building something that my child will one day look at and (hopefully) be proud of. I’m proving to myself that I can chase my dreams while still being present for my family.
So, to any other parents out there trying to build a business, follow a passion, or simply keep things afloat—you’re not alone. It’s tough, but it’s possible. One step, one order, one moment at a time.
And for those who have supported Pathfinder Clothing Co., whether through a purchase, a message, or simply following along on this journey—thank you. You’re not just supporting a brand; you’re supporting a dream, a family, and a vision for something bigger.
Here’s to the adventure ahead—both in business and in parenthood. 🌿⭐️
